Dear Prospective Volunteer,

At Ubuntu Legacy Community Care, we are dedicated to supporting Afro-Canadian seniors and youth in Mississauga, Ontario, through culturally responsive programs that honor our heritage while building stronger, more connected communities.

What We Do

Our organization provides essential services including:

  • Companion support for seniors to reduce isolation and promote well-being
  • Youth mentorship programs that connect generations and build leadership skills
  • Cultural workshops and events celebrating African heritage and traditions
  • Community programs addressing mental health, wellness, and social connection

Volunteer Opportunities

We offer diverse volunteer roles to match your skills and interests:

  • Companion Support: Spend quality time with seniors through visits, activities, and conversation
  • Program Support: Assist with planning and facilitating community programs and workshops
  • Event Coordinator: Help organize and execute community events and celebrations
  • Youth Mentor: Guide and inspire young people through mentorship and educational activities
  • Workshop Facilitator: Lead workshops on topics like health, culture, arts, or life skills
  • Admin Support: Provide administrative assistance to keep our operations running smoothly

Volunteer Requirements

To ensure the safety and well-being of our community members, all volunteers must:

  • Complete a Vulnerable Sector Check (CRJMC) through the Criminal Records Review Program
  • Attend a volunteer orientation session
  • Commit to a minimum of 3 months of regular volunteering
  • Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and respect for diverse backgrounds
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times
